‘Homeland’ season 3, episode 2 preview: Saul sticks that knife a little deeper
“Homeland” season 3 started off with an episode that built in a crescendo, and then hit its first big note of the season when Saul decided to turn his back on one of his close allies in Carrie. In selling her out in front of a Senate subcommittee, he may have done just enough in order to cement the CIA’s status as an organization that may be able to regain the American people’s trust.
However, at the same time is he losing the trust of those he really needs to care about? What is particularly telling about the promo below is that Carrie is not the only one who seems to be doubting him and his methods of trying to cover up as much of the mess as possible from the public’s eyes.
Saul also has a mission of his own that he is going to try and take care of, and that is basically one that revolves almost entirely around damage control … and trying to get Carrie’s family to help shut her up. Yes, he is taking it to that sort of personal level. It’s a stark contrast from the Saul that the show has presented so far, but for the sake of presenting a great product, it is probably the best move that can be made. They have to present a full picture of a man, and someone who is flawed and is going to give in to certain pressures. Having the government breathing down his neck is just about the biggest pressure a single man can really face.
Want to take an even more thorough look at what is coming up on “Homeland” season 3? The promo at the link here should do the trick, and we’ll have more to share in the way of sneak peeks this weekend.
