‘Dancing With the Stars’ season 17, episode 3 review: Bill Nye dances despite injury
The cast this year on “Dancing With the Stars” season 17 has been incredible so far. From the intense performances, beautiful dance moves and huge fan bases rallying for their favorite stars, this really is anyone’s game. The one person we are really worried about though is Bill Nye. Although he is not the best dancer this season, his fan base is coming together in a way that we have never seen before, but after an injury to his knee last week resulting in a torn ligament, we are worried that he may not be able to continue dancing on the show.
Tonight is Hollywood night where our pairs will be taking on the roles of starlets and hunks from different time periods over the years, so let’s get right to it and see how everyone fairs and who is eliminated at the end of the show.
1. Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani – (James Bond – rumba) Going first can be the kiss of death, but their dance was sexy, sensual and memorable. Our favorite performance from these two so far. Score: 24
2. Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff -(Old Hollywood scandal – quickstep) Karina may have a winner on her hands here with Corbin since he’s so likeable and an amazing dancer to boot. Their quickstep was so entertaining, spot on and the story was easy to follow. Score: 26
3. Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy – (Pan Am – foxtrot) We are a sucker for anything Pan Am and Frank Sinatra related, but throw in Elizabeth and Val’s beautiful dance moves and fun storyline and we are sold on this pair. Score: 25
4. Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd – (The roaring 20’s – quickstep) Brant has had a bad week. Not only has he hurt his ankle, but he was also robbed at gunpoint by someone who stole his dance shoes. Their dance was great and you wouldn’t have known that he had an injury, but we were totally thrown off by the awful song choice of Beyonce. Score: 27
5. Valerie Harper and Tristan MacManus – (Grace Kelly and Freddy Mercury – cha cha) We love Valerie and she looked incredible, but the timing was off and she seemed to spend more time flinging her dress around then dancing. Score: 16
6. Bill Engvall and Emma Slater – (The Lone Ranger – paso doble) This was by far our favorite dance of Bill’s because you could see that he’s really passionate about the character he was playing (a childhood hero of his) and he put everything he had into the dance. He is also someone that we have seen improve week to week and we love that kind of story. Score: 24
7. Amber Riley and Derek Hough – (The Great Gatsby – Charleston) This performance was so outstanding and by far our favorite of the entire season so far. It was full of razzle dazzle and was so exciting for us, but the judges were hard on them and nit picked on angles and foot work. Score: 24
8. Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke – (70’s Hollywood – cha cha) A lot of people are doing the golden age of Hollywood so it was a breath of fresh air to see Jack and Cheryl choose the 70’s. Jack had the moves down, but we felt he was a little stiff, especially compared to last week and watching him almost slide off that ramp was a little frightening. Score: 22
9. Christina Milian and Mark Ballas – (Black and White silent film – Charleston) After seeing Amber and Derek’s Charleston (which we loved) it was hard to top, but these two did the dance justice. It was fun and flowed well with the music. Score: 26
10. Snooki and Sasha Farber – (Marilyn Monroe – quickstep) After rough scores last week Sasha is really putting Snooki through the ringer to make sure this doesn’t happen again. The dance was crazy amazing and they definitely stepped it up from last week ending the dance with them doing a one handed cartwheel together. Score: 25
11. Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein – (Futuristic theme – Jazz) We were worried that our favorite science guy wasn’t going to be dancing tonight, but after a lot of treatment (and possibly a new robot leg) he is dancing tonight! This dance told a great story and Tyne did the best she could with his injury. Score: 16
As for who went home tonight, it was Bill Nye who went home and after he danced on one leg it was a sad elimination to see.
