‘American Idol’ winner Candice Glover’s debut album ‘Music Speaks’ delayed until February 18

More trouble -More sad news coming out now in the fallout from “American Idol’s” mess of season 12. Despite Candice Glover being one of the most fantastic singers to ever come out of the show, she will be the first winner of a season since Kelly Clarkson to not have a debut album in stores in time for the holidays. Even with Kelly, the difference is that her season aired later in the year.

In news that was confirmed today by Interscope on Twitter, Glover’s “Music Speaks” is going to be released now on February 18, five months after its recently-planned October launch and almost two-thirds of a year later than when it was first announced to come out in July. Originally, the plan was to push the singer’s album out quickly so that it would sell while she was still fresh in the minds of viewers; then, it was decided that more time was needed.

Obviously, the explanation given here is going to be that the disc simply needs even more time to be perfect for launch, but there is a distressing feeling around it, nonetheless. February is a difficult time to release an album, and many recent “American Idol” contestants, including Jessica Sanchez, Haley Reinhart, and Casey Abrams, have failed to see big sales in releasing their debut albums in the year following their time on the show. The name that really would scare many is Melanie Amaro, the winner of “The X Factor” USA season 1 who, despite claims of getting a $5 million recording contract, still has no disc in stores.

Candice is promising to answer questions in a live stream chat later this week, and hopefully then will there be some more information handed out. She clearly has the voice to be a recording star; let’s just hope that the support behind the scenes is just as strong.
