Ratings: ‘Hawaii Five-0’ move to Friday has weak start; ‘MasterChef Junior’ starts strong

When you look at TV, you have to remember that there is a certain level of relativity to take into account. For example, a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic for one network may be bad while a 1.6 for another may be good. This is the center-point of our story today, as we talk about some important season / series premieres.

Take Fox, for example, which has to be thrilled to see “MasterChef Junior” drew a 1.6 for its first episode. It’s a massive jump up from where they were with “Kitchen Nightmares” last year, and serves as further proof that Gordon Ramsay is the cash cow of their network. They may as well just rename themselves “Ramsay Channel” and show his programs all across the board at this point.

Meanwhile, the move of “Hawaii Five-0” to Friday nights did not work as well for CBS. There were hopes that not being against “Castle” and “Revolution” would help the show at least keep the same audience that it had on Monday, but its 1.5 was down from the 1.8 that it had for the finale. It was the weakest performer for the network on a night when “Undercover Boss” and “Blue Bloods” (which continues to hold firm as the oldest-skewing show on TV) each posted a 1.7.

The real winner of the night? “Shark Tank,” which scored a solid 1.9 even though ABC is totally not giving it any help by airing it after the flop that is “The Neighbors” season 2. We expect to see it gone by midseason, and “Last Man Standing” is not faring that much better.
