‘The Newsroom’ season 3: Emily Mortimer furthers relationship with HBO
Based on the comments from Jeff Daniels yet again (though this time following his win at the Emmy Awards), “The Newsroom” season 3 is going to be back at some point eventually; so with that in mind, it looks like Emily Mortimer is going to be pulling double-duty with HBO very soon.
Sources have confirmed that the premium cable network has picked up the new series “Doll & Em,” which has been created by Mortimer, best known for playing Mackenzie McHale, along with fellow British actress Dolly Wells. The story is semi-autobiographical, and revolves around a British actress (Mortimer) and her assistant (Wells), who is also her childhood friend. The two are working together on a Hollywood movie, and it may be a fish-out-of-water comedy series.
The series has been ordered for six episodes on the British station Sky Living, and it will premiere there in February 2014. There is no premiere date announced just yet for the show in America, thought it’s reasonable to guess that it will be a few months later.
As for how Mortimer would balance both this and “The Newsroom,” it shouldn’t be a problem at all. Six episodes of a comedy is not a huge commitment, even if she also has a role behind the scenes. There is also still no telling as to when season 3 of “The Newsroom” would begin production. It really all depends on the schedule of creator Aaron Sorkin, and the earliest that it would even start is the summer of next year. (We certainly do not imagine it coming back sooner if the man is busy.)
