‘Top Chef: New Orleans’: The battle of the food trucks in latest ‘Padma’s Picks’
Who says that you cannot eat gourmet while on the go? In the last edition of the “Top Chef: New Orleans” web series “Padma’s Picks” that we are going to talk about prior to the finale (which we will post / discuss next weekend), we have a showdown between two people who are best in the city for operating food trucks serving a variety of different foods.
This time around, the competition is between a man specializing in Venezuelan / French fusion food in Benoit Angulo, and Louisiana farm-to-table man Chris Wadsworth. This was probably the most challenging competition that we have seen any of these chefs go through so far. Basically, they had to face off with not just each other, but the stressful conditions of trying to cook a gourmet meal in a cramped space, and with high temperatures and angles to go along with it. Chris, for example, had to deal with his oil constantly tilting down.
For sure, Benoit wins the award out of this entire web series for the best in-preparation panic attack. The guy looked like he was on the verge of disaster the entire time, in between his constant swearing and his almost lack of interest at one point in actually telling the cameraman what he was up to. We thought that Chris was going to slaughter him based on edit alone, and then … he won? If this sort of panic resulted in that kind of food, we can only imagine what could happen to him in the actual “Top Chef” kitchen if he makes it to the season. Unfortunately he still has the challenge of competing against four other chefs if he wants to even make it there.
