‘The X Factor’ UK review: Jade Richards, Melanie McCabe return, Ryan Mathie, Abi Alton shine

The latest news -Ladies and gentlemen, we have arrived! The second audition-room episode of “The X Factor” UK aired today, with the expectations high as the show had to try and attempt to match the excitement / intensity of what the show brought to the table last weekend.

We’ll be honest and say that at first, the show was pretty subpar, and even some of the acts that were universally put through to the next phase of the competition were sorely lacking. However, that changed with the performances that took place a little bit later in the hour.

Advancing

Chloe O’Gorman – You have such a bubbly personality, and then you choose to go out there and sing Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb”? Seriously? She may have been waiting to audition for a decade, but she really wasn’t that strong. A very limited range vocally.

Barclay Beales – As we said in one of our preview posts, Barclay’s got some great talent as a yodeler, but can he really do that much more that? This is what makes us a little bit nervous about him.

Relley C – A little off-pitch in the higher notes, but easily the best audition in the first twenty minutes of the broadcast. We also assume that she is going to do very well in this competition. She has an interesting story as a housekeeper, and she could be very likable and a favorite of viewers at home.

Shelley Smith – We liked the audition, but did anyone else think her job description of “driving a white van” is something straight out of “Breaking Bad”? She may have actually been better than Relley.

Ryan Mathie -Ryan seems to be a pretty nice guy, and someone in training to be a mechanic. Personally, we see him as the sort of guy who lasts a few weeks, but then heads home.

Abi Alton – She is the other contestant that we teased earlier this weekend, and for good reason: She is a pretty phenomenal talent.

Jade Richards – Jade’s back again! This is her third time, but probably her best chance at running the table. She has a great voice, but the biggest challenge for her is getting that personality out there.

Dolly Rockers – Remember them? This group is literally seven years old, but they came back this year and was much improved.

Melanie McCabe – This was seriously her fourth time coming on the show, and she’s never really had a ton of airtime in the past. But she’s still young, still has talent, and this could actually be her year. Maybe. We will see.

Going straight home

Thomas Deely – In this week’s edition of “let’s embarrass an old guy,” you had a delusional DJ who is in his fifties and was so horrible, he probably should have been sent off without even a vote. He had to know that he was horrible.

Stuart Manson – If you are a man in your fifties, this show typically makes sure that you are terrible if you are going to get on the show.

Colin Stacey – The best part of this whole audition was that he put a picture of his cat on the floor, and the camera kept panning to the picture during his performance of Adele’s “Someone Like You.”

Who was your favorite during this “X Factor” episode? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below! Of course, we will be back tomorrow with a look at how all of these people did in the next phase of the competition.
