‘True Blood’ season 7 spoilers: Will the series finale be in 2014?

When you look at a show like “True Blood,” you know that we are near its end. The ratings for season 6 were down pretty much all across the board, and it’s no longer the golden child of HBO. That honor instead goes to another, equally-violent show in “Game of Thrones.” However, on the flip side the diehard fans standing behind the show just as much as ever before, and they feel like there could be two or even three more seasons left.

So how do you try to close the door on something that has become such a phenomenon for so many people? This is what the folks over at the network, and the producers working hard to figure out. Executive producer Brian Buckner tells TVLine that there are some conversations taking place now about when the end could be, and the answer should be made available come the time that the writers go back to work in the fall:

“That conversation is happening, but we don’t have an answer yet. I’m being told that I will know – which doesn’t mean that I will tell everybody. But I will know when the writers resume in the room [next month] whether or not we’re wrapping it up or not.”

Personally, we say to pull a “Dexter” and give the show until season 8 for one very simple reason: Buckner had the show back on course during the final weeks of the season. Since Eric Northman is alive, we know that we will have Alexander Skarsgard for at least one or maybe two more seasons. He did a great job of bringing people back together at a time when the show was becoming a billion little stories that meant nothing to each other.

We’d like to see Buckner have two full seasons as showrunner, and actually allow the show to wrap up in a way that the characters are put first over shock value. This is the direction we started to see things going in at the end of season 6, and we see no reason to stop that momentum at all.
