‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: Casting a connection Jensen Ackles’ Dean
Just in case you like to see some blasts from the past play out on “Supernatural,” it looks based on some new reports that we are going to have one of those play out in an upcoming season 9 episode of the show.
According to a new report from SpoilerTV, producers for the CW hit are currently in the process of casting the character of Robin, a waitress in her thirties who bears a surprising connection to Jensen Ackles’ Dean. What is it? She remembers him from a teen romance that they had twenty years ago, and her being back in the picture now could have an interesting impact on him.
Does this mean that a full-fledged romantic arc is on the way for Dean? Not necessarily, and it’s much too early to tell based on just one casting snippet. Robin will first appear in the fifth episode of the season, which means that if nothing else, she will not be around for some of the growing pains that Misha Collins’ Castiel is going to be going through as an angel turned human on earth.
No matter what happens with Robin, let’s just hope that it fares a little bit better than what unfolded in regards to Sam and Amelia last season. This was clearly one of the most-polarizing storylines out there, especially since being with her in many ways represented Jared Padalecki’s character shifting away from Dean and his hunting ways. Since this is a show first and foremost about the Winchesters, nobody really wanted to see that.
What do you think about the idea for this storyline? You can read some more casting intel from “Supernatural” season 9 at the link here, and we will of course have more news as it becomes available.

You say she’s like a female equivalent of Dean? Maybe the Destiel fans will get their craving satisfied in a CW-friendly way, if Robin becomes the love interest for now-human Cas! We do know that there is some sexin’ in Cas’s future. Maybe this is it.

SPN needs more STRONG female characters who have their own story and can stand on their own feet (Charlie; Sheriff Mills; Ellen). What SPN does not need is yet another woman thrown in, simply as possibly another love interest. These ‘love interest’ story lines are getting tedious. Why do they keep including them? Just to possibly show the guys fooling around? Dean DOES need a strong story line, but do they have to resort to just yet another ‘female love interest’ to accomplish it?

Bring on the hate cause I’m just going to say it and I know I’ll get boo’d and down-voted and possibly receive all kinds of hate for saying this, but oh well- it’s my opinion and I’d like to think I’m as at liberty to give it as anyone else that has commented here. I don’t like the idea of any of kind of romantic love interest for Dean or for Castiel, unless it is them with each other. They have good chemistry, they have history, they have a well-developed relationship. Everything that is something that I would like in a romantic arc for Dean or Cas is already present with their current relationship. They’re both strong characters in their own right. And I personally see no need to try to bring in female characters solely to satisfy a need that is can be easily taken care of already, and would make many fans happy. The only issue is their gender and that shouldn’t be an issue. Not in this day and age, and especially not with fictional characters, at least not in my opinion cause I just see love, not gender. But I know that’s just me and many people don’t feel that way and that’s fine. The article here asks “What do you think about the idea for this storyline?” and this is what I truly think about it.

Hah! The first thing I thought when I saw someone from Dean’s past and waitress was the waitress from Tampa!!! I’m guessing it wont be her though, if only because the age seems off :)

I think under the circumstances, Dean has it right on how he handles his love life. Although one night stands are not usually advisable, I think it works for Dean. He is pragmatic, he gets his needs met with no strings, no obligations nor guilt. Even if he found a woman who accepts or shares his way of life, Dean would have 2 people to worry about and take care of (Sam and his lady). He would become less effective in what he has to do. I’m afraid that as long as Sam and Dean are hunters they will never have a lasting, successful relationship with a woman.

Thank God maybe Dean will have something to do other than take care of “whats wrong with Sam” and “what are we going to do with Cas”? From what Jared said at the nerd hq-Dean does get some action-so hopefully it is with this girl Robin-couldn’t they have used a more feminine- prettier name-I mean come on- Robin and Amelia are old world names- but that’s just me-even “ellie” is an old world name. I kinda hoped that it was Ellie coming back. I like Danay-she had good chemistry with Jensen.

Hell no..absolutely not. Did they not learn from having Lisa in season 6 aout how much fans do NOT like Dean being with any woman? Wtf. Why would they even try to do that again?! I even hated Amelia..I don’t like anyone who comes between them. They need to stick together and not have anyone else come between them. I was so happy in season 8 when Amelia was gone and Benny was gone and it was just Sam and Dean again. Don’t mess that up! Ugh! Idiots! I will be soo mad if he has a romance with anyone.

You do know that Dean and Sam are MEN-Men love women-and Dean loves women ALOT. It is totally in character for him to have sex once in a while-and personally I would love it if we get another female regular that is a love interest for Dean. I just hope its not a damsel in distress type situation-but that she can hold her own. another hunter maybe-or a cop or someone who is a strong but feminine woman. I liked the idea of Lisa-and in fact the one supernatural novel I read filled in the gaps of what Lisa went thru when Dean showed up at her door. So I kinda used that book’s story as a bridge to Lisa in s6. I liked the idea of her. The actress in my opinion didn’t have much chemistry with Jensen. and the actor who played Ben was just plain bad and whiney. Hopefully the actress they get to play Robin has some chemistry with Jensen-and that the role is written as well as Charlie is.

We’ve already had three “blast from the past” relationships with Dean, all of which were, in my opinion, total duds. Cassie acts as though she wants to make it work and then when Dean says he wants to try, she says no. Lisa? What the hell even WAS that? I’m sorry but he has a fling with her, then goes back to see her the time he saves her and Ben, and suddenly when the apocolypse comes, that becomes his happy ending? I can see him wishing for happiness like that, but the fact that after meeting twice, she’s like “yeah, come on home, baby, let’s make a life together” was just way too flimsy a storyline for me. And she also always seemed to brush him off, one moment insisting they could make things work, the next moment saying she couldn’t handle his life. Make up your mind.
Hate me for saying it, but I just want things to stick with Sam, Dean, and Cas. Yes, Cas is part of the family now.

I don’t hate you for saying this. I love you for saying it. I wish they’d just stick to Cas, Dean, and Sam too. They suck at trying to force romances on the boys, and they should just quit trying.
If they’re going to include more female characters, then I would love for them to be included as characters in their own right and not as love interests for the guys. Women can be so much more than love interests for men, past or present. I think that is one reason why Charlie works so well on the show. She’s her own character and not just Sam’s new girlfriend or Dean’s old flame.

Amelia flopped because she was lame. She was mentally/emotionally/verbally abusive to Sam and yet he’s madly in love with her?! He knows she won’t leave her husband unless he wants her?! He sleeps with a married woman a day after seeing each in a bar?! How far did he sink in that relationship? From what I could see he was scrapping bottom so dumping Amelia was a good thing. Of course with butchering Carver gave season 8 I’m not holding out hope. Gamble wasn’t Kripke but at least she didn’t totally ignore the 1st 7 seasons and write whatever she felt like.

The Amelia story sucked for all those reasons, but also because Amelia didn’t know Sam at all. She knew nothing about who he really is or what he had been through, and had no connection to his true world. As bad as the Ruby thing was, at least it made more sense, she was part of the SPN story and universe. The guy Amelia was in love with was NOT Sam. And I agree that it brought out the very worst in Sam. The Sam I know still cared about his big brother even through the whole Ruby debacle, but this version of Sam was selfish, self-centered, and stopped giving a damn about the brother that had loved and cared for him his whole life, nor Kevin or anybody else for that matter except for this woman. In short, THIS guy was NOT Sammy.
I want both Sam and Dean to find true love in the end, but a woman who knows nothing about them or what they’ve been through and who they must become someone they’re not for is NOT the one. But maybe this teen romance of Dean’s is connected to that world and that would be great for at least a brief romance. Dean deserves it.

I loved Lisa. So, huge shoes to fill for a romance with Dean. Didn’t much care for the Amelia storyline. I am all for Dean and Sam finding lasting relationships, but sometimes the chemistry isn’t there. Or the other characters seem boring. So, here’s hoping this “Robin” if she is intended for a long-running romance, can fill the big shoes left by Lisa.

It is wonderful news!!!! Dean didn’t have any romantic relationship after the sad break-up with Lisa. Dean always takes care of others (Sam, Castiel, Kevin, Benny etc) just like their big brother or something but he is human being and really needs someone who loves and cares for him. Dean has so much pain and sadness inside and needs someone to unburden himself to…

Having an episode featuring someone who knew Dean as a teenager might be interesting to see how Dean has change, but romantic interestes with someone who’s not part of the hunting world just never ever work. They will be part of a case, or end up as a victim.

Maybe she was/is part of the hunting world.
If nothing else, it would be nice if Dean had at least a brief romance. This gorgeous man has been living like a monk for over two years! Neither Sam nor Dean should be expected to live in total celibacy forever. Sam got his last season, now it’s Dean’s turn.

I don’t like any romantic arcs or anyone who gets between Sam and Dean. I want them to heal their relationship which we have been promised since S5 and only just started in 8.23. No Benny, no Cas, no Amelia, no Robin…I want Sam and Dean to be BROTHERS again and I want Bobby alive and well.

They healed the relationship until season 8 when Carver put forth the lame excuse for tension. 823 didn’t see healing it saw status 2ui for Carver. Sam abuses Dean and Dean apologizes for upsetting him. In no way was telling Dean it’s all Dean’s fault he was an ass about Benny/Cas in season 8 IS NOT AN APOLOGY!!

Yeah, some fans like to say how mean Dean is to Sam and Cas and conveniently forget that it was THEM that hurt and betrayed Dean. Yes Dean shouldn’t have lied about Amy and the text was a douchebag move, but was only two instances of Dean screwing over Sam, whereas Sam, although I love him, turned his back on Dean in college, bitched about him to Meg,mocked the suffering he went through in Hell, chose Ruby over him, and then abandoned him without even bothering to try to find him after he went to Purgatory, then got mad at him for actually being hurt about it. Yes it did seem like Sam was blaming Dean for having trust issues that were caused by HIM, but it was still a beautiful heartfelt speech, and it’s all we’re ever gonna get in the way of any kind of apology on Sam’s part, so we have to take it and be satisfied.

As for Cas, he let Sam loose when Dean was trying to detox him and keep him from Ruby, he helped keep Dean from getting to Sam in time to stop him, he went against Dean and worked with Crowley to get the souls, let in the Leviathin which resulted in Bobby’s death, didn’t trust Dean with the angel tablet, went against his advice concerning Metatron (and look what happened) and yeah, BROKE SAM’S WALL, which almost killed him. But Dean is a big meanie and bad friend to Cas. Yeah, ok.
Let Dean have at least a brief romance. It’s time somebody valued and loved HIM for a change.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! One thing is certainly true, the story of the show is about the Winchester brothers!

Of course it is but that doesn’t mean these adult, gorgeous men would be living in total celibacy. That’s just not realistic, even in the SPN world. Dean Winchester never getting any action is a shameful waste of a sinfully beautiful man.

I don’t mind the occasional one or two night stand for Sam and Dean, but long term romantic relationships with other people just don’t make sense. (I would love to see both of them make friends with other hunters, tho,)
And you’re right–this show IS first and foremost about Sam and Dean :)

Or maybe it was a teenage indiscretion that may have resulted in a child! Dean always wanted to be a father and all he got was a monster child that had to be killed. Although I guess that would mess up the dynamic of SPN.
I hope he had at gets a brief romance, but I’m not holding my breath. We all thought something would happen with Ellie, but all that was was a kiss.

Or they don’t want to live through the horror of another Amelia. Carver’s stock in trade lame romance, lame tension, lame makeups, just plain lame.
