‘Whodunnit?’ season 2: Why it must happen
Going into “Whodunnit?” this summer, we were hoping for just a reasonable slice of summer entertainment, at least something that was a major step up from ABC’s other reality experiments like “Expedition Impossible” or “The Glass House.”
What we ended up having was probably the network’s most-entertaining game of strategy since “The Mole”: Groups of players basically living out a murder-mystery game week to week, with a little bit of role-playing thrown in there and a host in Giles the Butler who we seriously want to see nominated and at the Emmy Awards next year in full character. (Granted, it may not be a good idea since death tends to follow him everywhere.) It is a thoroughly-entertaining show with creativity, and thanks to the right cast and some shrewd production twists and turns, it turned out to be even more fun that we first imagined.
But is a season 2 guaranteed? Hardly. The ratings have not exactly been killer (Giles-like pun intended), but they have at least been fairly consistent. Despite airing at a time up against “True Blood,” “Dexter,” and this past Sunday “Breaking Bad,” the show built up its viewership somewhat for its best numbers since the premiere. If this was the fall season, the show would have no chance, but this is summer, and everyone who watched the show seemed to genuinely like it. Nobody wants to get into a show like this mid-watch, but if it gets recommended to their friends over the year and they in turn check it out (which could work if they avoid spoilers), we don’t see why there would not be more viewers next year, when people better know what they’re getting into.
There would be challenges for a season 2, given that Giles would look pretty naive for getting himself in a hostage situation again, and creator Anthony Zuiker would have to work with his team on some new ways to murder people. But, there are also benefits: You could change up Rue Manor a little bit, think outside the box, and build the murders more around what you saw this time. You’ve seen the game play out, and you can now take advantage of what worked (the crime scenes, the riddles, the hilariously awful puns), and minimize what didn’t (the killer’s poetry skills during riddles, keeping things a tad too repetitive at times).
Our point here is that ABC does not really have much to lose here. “The Bachelorette” numbers are down, they don’t have much reality fare in the summer, and this show can’t be expensive compared to most of their other scripted far. So why not give this another try? This is more of the cable model, and if it doesn’t improve the second season in the numbers, then you know that it’s probably maxed out. Is it a little bit of a mystery? Sure, but if the network hated such a thing, they would have never sent these people into Rue Manor in the first place.

I just watched all the episodes for the first time today and absolutely loved it! By the end of the first episode, when Daunte caught on fire, even though I was 99.9% sure that it was fake, a small part of me thought for a second that it was real. His death just seemed so real.

They should make the show come on more often. Took way to long every Sunday. Maybe every Thursday and Friday? Other than that loved it.

I watched this with my boys. We LOVED it! I generally cannot stand any sort of “reality” tv but this one got me. We were so excited every week for the new episode. I guessed who the killer was very early on but toward the end started having my doubts and began to consider that it really could have been any of the three remaining. We are keeping our fingers crossed for a season 2.

I think they should start S2 with Kam going “on vacation” at a resort (that happens to have about 12 other “vacationers” and run into Giles. As they are shooting the breeze, someone kills Kam (in horror movie sequels, the only survivor of the previous movie is the first one to die), and the mystery begins, with all the other “vacationers” left to solve… whodunnit. A few ideas to improve the show: give legit clues for the observant to notice about the killer (I don’t know that there was any clue as to the killer’s guilt other than the fact that she had never been Scared), and let us post our theories on an official Twitter or FB page.

Well, Cris did leave behind a few clues throughout the season.
A) She mentioned that she rode horses as a child — she was the only contestant shown throwing that information out there
B) Her cop father taught her how to shoot guns — she was, again, the only contestant shown making such a claim as if to point the finger in her direction
C) The fact that Dana & Sasha were all dolled up kind of gave it away to me too. Sure, this could have pointed at any of the women, because I just didn’t see ANY of the guys at that point having such keen fashion sense haha. And who else could have dolled them up as good as Cris, the former pageant queen??
I thought there were enough clues to leave me satisfied that Cris was the killer. Hopefully they bring it back for another season, I thought it was a fun show.

Unfortunately, this show was VERY EXPENSIVE. The Bachelorette can be shot on a shoestring budget, but this show requires expensive props, stunt actors, tons of makeup artists, and a lot of time-consuming choreography. The show’s budget was $750,000 per day, with each episode of the show taking about three days to shoot. That comes out to a bit more than the production cost of Firefly, which as we sadly know had a lot to do with why there was no second season.

I would love to see a season 2 but there would have to be a restructure. It would be difficult to avoid “re-run”. I really enjoy shows like this and would watch a second season religiously like I watched the first.

I hope they make another season!! I looked forward to it every week! I knew Chris was the killer!!! Really, a fashion model, doesn’t that seem the least bit sneaky to you. She also gave it away with the spa idea. HAHA, I GOT YOU!!

I hate that I figured out the killer early on due to crappy editing. The biggest clue being the stuffed Mountain Lion during the zombie puzzle piece challenge.

I was so excited for this show because I thought it was going to fill the whole in my heart of the Mole getting the ax. It fell very very flat! If they bring it back, they seriously need to redo the structure. The show is called Whodunnit and yet with the exception of the last episode, the whole thing was HOWdunnit. The whole “team” thing was really stupid too. The majority of the people just road coattails and got really far. They need to make it more individual and prevent people from cheating by just following someone who actually figured out the riddle to the next location. Also, they should make it slightly possibly to actually figure out who the killer is. There is absolutely NO way anyone would know based on the way they did it this time (very staged)! They need to do it more like the Mole where it’s actually possible to figure out who the killer is and not just have the winner be the person who can solve the most mundane/easy tasks at the end.

Omg! Whodunnit Season one has been the most thrilling adventure packed bundle on ABC. Spoiler alert ahead…..
I knew from the beginning that Cris was the Killer. I knew that pretty face wasn’t all Cris had in her. Good game though!
Kam Kam Kam! So many thoughts on this guy who left Rue Manor A Quarter of A Million dollars richer! Honestly you played a very sneaky yet well-planned game. The winner!!!
Lindsey was a very unique person but I was never certain about her. That creepy laugh and playing both sides… Wow. You did have it right every single episode on who the Killer was. You rightly deserved the title of the winner.
Ok now Melina was a very nice and afraid individual. I sort of suspected her due to that overdone screams and agonizing moments when looking at the dead. Sorry!

A great idea for a second season of whodunnit is going to an entirely new location and there are so many great murder ideas, I wont be able to type them all. For one somebody could be fed up with show after being scared then “end it all” or somebody is trying to attack another guest so they survive the day, but it goes horrible wrong(did they murder them or was it a set up the killer made) just two of my many idea. btw im only a 16 yr. old girl, who plans to major in forensic chemistry.

I luv this show, if they are looking for a way to rekindle it I have an idea, Lindsay anticipated that she would be discovered. So before the competition she trained an apprentice to carry out her doings. The apprentice lures gials back to Roo Manor using threats and riddles. Once there he is forced to call out more people. Feed back PLEASE.

The show could return. Reusing Giles or not someone else could fill in those shoes.Think of it like the game Clue. Its different everytime you play it. Change the murders up, and new clues. Bring it on.
