‘New Girl’ season 3 spoilers: When could Coach first appear?
While “New Girl” has delivered some great casting announcements already this year, we don’t know if anything for now touches the idea of getting to see more of Damon Wayans Jr. in the role of Coach. He last appeared in the pilot, but thanks to “Happy Endings” being renewed, that’s all we saw from him courtesy of his character being replaced by Lamorne Morris’ Winston.
This was a casting that we long assumed was just going to be one of those Easter eggs that happens with shows changing things up following their pilots, but instead, he will be back for multiple episodes! While Fox and the cast has not announced when we will officially first see Coach again, the upcoming seventh episode of the season is simply titled “Coach.” This could be a red herring and he could show up sooner, but we can’t imagine there being a half-hour with this name attached without him involved in some form.
But what can we expect to see from Coach’s return? Hopefully some more great moments intimidating everyone else around him, while simultaneously having no clue what he’s doing with his own life. Coach had so much potential to be a great character, and it’s exciting to get a little bit more of him now, even if it’s not permanent.
As for some of the other great announcements, think along the lines of seeing more from Merritt Wever as Elizabeth, or the news now that Jess’ sister is being cast for a future episode. So long as the level of humor is at least somewhat on par with season 2, we’re going to be in for a fantastic year.
“New Girl” returns to Fox with new episodes on Tuesday, September 17 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
