‘Criminal Minds’ season 9 spoilers: The flashback debate
Once upon a time on “Criminal Minds” … doesn’t just the idea of saying that freak you out a little bit? Well, we are going to be getting a greater sense of at least one character’s past on the CBS drama this season, and some more could be coming soon depending on where the chips happen to fall.
According to TVLine, what we can say so far about this upcoming season is pretty simple: There is going to be some sort of story that gives us a look at JJ’s past, and some things related to her backstory that should be interesting for longtime fans of the show. We also do personally find it interesting to take a little bit of a dive into character histories, and we’re sure that this will really be no exception to the rule at all.
Showrunner Erica Messer says that more back ground stories could potentially be added, as she does often speak with some of the actors about some of what they would like to see unfold for their characters. You don’t quite see that happen on every show, but it must add to the familial atmosphere and the relationship that all of these people have with each other. (Then again, it could theoretically also lead to clashes.)
What do you think of a JJ story centered around her past, and are there any more of these specifically that you’d like to see pop up on “Criminal Minds” this season? If you’re looking for some more details related to casting or something else, have no fear: We’ve got you covered over at the link here.

Yes, by all means give us Pen’s story, just what phenomenal thing did she do to get herself into a stew with the FBI. Is she now off the hook? Is the CIA still watching her? And she’s had plenty of tragedy in her past as well, does she have any communications with her biological father? So much stuff there to make a great story. Interjecting Morgan into the story would also be a plus, as they just have that special something always present between them. Maybe as a result of something heartbreaking re Penelope and her father.
Enough of Reid and Morgan’s back story, good as they are, that’s been covered dispreportionally to Pen and JJ & Hotch.

When are they finally get Garcia and Morgan together? They belong together, and just as friends!!!!!

At the risk of “gushing”, I think the writing on this show has been first rate from day one (OK – maybe a few weak storylines, but you’re only human.) You’ve delved into the past of all the characters with great creativity. I always wanted to know more about JJ; but since you’re already doing that, a little bit of insight into Penelope’s past would be welcome. I have so many questions about her. Also, I realize that “Beth” is not a regular cast member and we don’t want to waste any more time on her than we already have (YUK!); but could you “geniuses” figure out a way to send her packing and cast someone who would spark with TG? Am I the only one who thinks he could do so much better.?

I really do not like the new JJ since she came back to the show so my anticipation of S9 has been dimmed. I don’t think the writers do backstories well at all and they should stick to the crimes and the profiling. I do however totally agree about Beth (YUK!) – no chemistry with TG at all. Lose her/

I agree with you Mary. I was hoping that if they looked into JJ’s past, they would find something that would make her more interesting. I, too, wish they would stick to the profiling and criminal development. I’m relieved to know that someone agrees with me about “Beth-the-Bore”.

I’m happy for them to delve into each characters past just as long as they don’t do that horrible mullet hairstyle they gave Reid in the flashback episode. I would want to see Garcia’s past the most.

I’d rather like to have finally a Derek Morgan – Undercoverstory. It’s about Time for that.
