Ratings: ‘Unforgettable’ season 2 not helped by ridiculous ‘Big Brother 15’ promotion
Would viewers of “Big Brother 15” really be tricked into watching “Unforgettable” based on some Poppy Montgomery product placement during the Have / Have-Not Competition? Not exactly, given that the crime drama does not have slop, showmances, and we’re pretty sure Julie Chen does not interview Poppy once a week after something terrible happens.
“Unforgettable” got off to a very forgettable start after being saved at the last minute to air this summer, posting just a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic for its first episode in over a year. The show also posted around 7 million viewers, proof that the show skews much older and would be a massive hit were it airing on TNT. Still, these aren’t abysmal numbers for the summer, but we still doubt that they are enough for a renewal, especially since we expect further drops from here on out.
Meanwhile, even “Big Brother 15” dropped to a 2.2, likely off of the downer of seeing Aaryn Gries and her evil stuffed clown occupying the Head of Household room again. The question for this show is not if the ratings are too bad to justify a renewal, but rather if CBS wants to put up with these sorts of nasty people again. We imagine that they will, given that Les Moonves just said at TCA today that he has the final say on the people who go into the house, and while they hate some of the racist / sexist behavior, the show still is the “social experiment” that it is. (Plus, the ratings are very strong for airing three nights a week, the budget isn’t terrible, and the show profits from the live feeds.)
