‘Falling Skies’ season 3 spoilers: An extension in line for season 4
Did you feel like season 3 of “Falling Skies” did not give you all of the alien action that you demand? If you find yourself answering “yes” to this question, then we have some potentially-great news coming your way now: The upcoming fourth season of the TNT hit is going to last a little bit longer.
According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, we are going to get a collection of 12 episodes featuring Noah Wyle and company, as opposed to the typical ten. What’s the reason for the change-up? It’s mostly just a testament to the success of the show, and the writers obviously believe that they have enough of a story to tell.
To be fair, the vast majority of cable shows out there have a season that runs for 12-16 episodes. Just look, for example, at “Dexter,” “Homeland,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “The Walking Dead,” “Justified,” “The Glades,” or “Suits” for some more evidence of that. Most seasons of “True Blood” are also 12 episodes long, but this one was shortened to account for Anna Paquin’s pregnancy; meanwhile, “Game of Thrones” is really the most-prominent series that does make a concentrated effort to only air ten episodes a year. Then again, this is a show that really cannot afford to make any more than ten installments at a time, and its episodes are longer than “Falling Skies.”
Expect what could be largely a completely new story for Tom and company next year, brought on by the knowledge that season 3 is going to end with at least a good many story threats tied up. This is going to be a nice contrast to the usual trajectory for most scripted series, which tend these days to end on giant cliffhangers.
