‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Nina Dobrev’s two roles aren’t going anywhere…

When you look back at the past two seasons of “The Vampire Diaries,” the easy analogy to make when it comes to Katherine is that she is basically akin to a designer accessory. You wear it for a while, put it away so that it doesn’t become tired, and then bring it back later as you see fit. Part of the reason why that works is that as a vampire, she is not the sort of character that would or should stay gravitated in one spot. It just wouldn’t make any sense at all.

However, this does not by any stretch of the imagination mean that human Katherine is going to be the same exact way. Since she’s vulnerable no matter where she goes, we’re going to be seeing this newly-scared incarnation of Nina Dobrev forced into taking on a bit more of a sedentary role. As executive producer Caroline Dries tells Entertainment Weekly, this is not a character that will be going anywhere on the show in the near future:

“Katherine is actually going to be one of the main people this season — one of the main characters … So she’s going to be intertwined in their lives — not that they want her there. But she’s actually going to need them more than they need her.”

Some of our favorite possible storylines for Katherine include the following: Watching her having to actually run at normal speed, getting a cut and not being able to heal herself, and possibly having to go and order a cheeseburger. It’s a completely fish out of water story in reverse; while she has been human before, it’s been many centuries since that time. It’s understandable if you have forgotten a thing or two.
