NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Alison Brie, Ken Jeong excited for another new start
Has there ever been a show to undergo as much change as “Community“? We don’t quite think that there is. You’ve had a showrunner change, two cast members depart, and another showrunner change; yet, the show has more excitement around it than it has in over a year, as Dan Harmon’s return has helped to squash some of the anxiety over Donald Glover’s exit.
Clearly, most of the cast is still upset over it. While Glover was not mentioned by name, the group’s Comic-Con contingent (Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jim Rash) all told TVLine Saturday that they have nothing but love for Donald, and therefore respect any decision that he makes (even if it is a particularly hard one to hear).
Meanwhile, Alison Brie said that it would “almost be a relief” to actually think that it will be the last season of the show, but at the same time, everyone clearly wants their to be a sixth. For one, this will bring the show up to the 100-episode mark, and there will also get them to that coveted “six seasons” that is so great, you really need a movie to go along with it.
Also, Ken Jeong specifically makes an effort to credit an absent Joel McHale for his work in bringing Harmon back to the show. Without him, it sounds like this move would have never happened at all, and as much as he maybe thought of him (justifiably so) as a crazy egomaniac, it’s clear that there is still plenty of respect there.
