‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Steven Moffat on John Hurt, announcing 12th Doctor
It’s no secret at the moment that just about everyone is curious to find out who is going to be playing the 12th Doctor on “Doctor Who” season 8, and there will be an answer coming to that mystery eventually. Unfortunately, you’re going to feel extremely silly if you try to set a specific date for it to happen. There are actors still being considered across the board, and to this point there has not even been confirmation on whether or not the character will be played by a man or a woman.
What can we say for now? That once the contract is finalized on this character, it looks to be announced not long after that. These are the words that are coming in now via executive producer Steven Moffat, who had the following to say on the subject in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“Unless we have an insane plan, we’ll announce a new Doctor within days of finalizing the new Doctor. Because it’s very very hard to keep any kind of a secret. The last time, when we chose Matt, we had to hold over on that one, because there was a Christmas Doctor Who special called ‘The Next Doctor’ for which Russell (T. Davies, former Doctor Who showrunner) was playing the game of pretending it was going to be David Morrissey. So we couldn’t deflate that. But I think we’ll go public pretty fast.”
Moffat also talked briefly about the 50th anniversary special airing on November 23, which he confirmed would be longer than the average installment of the show. In addition to that, he shared a few thoughts on what it was like working with the incredible John Hurt on his mysterious role:
“…He’s terrific. It’s a lovely 50th anniversary treat, I suppose. You get a whole new Doctor played by a proper screen legend.”
Do you have any particular ambitions or hopes for this 12th Doctor? As per always, we want to hear some of your thoughts with a comment below! If you would like to even more “Doctor Who”-related news specifically focused on Smith, you can do so over at the link here.

1) Older. Anything under 40 and it had better be an *astoundingly* excellent actor.
2) Less manic, but that’s the plots, not the actor. Matt proved he could play “quiet” just fine, but Moff didn’t let up for more than an instant w/the pinball performance requirements for series 6 – 7.
3) Possibly more growl-ey, somewhat akin to CE, or to nearly any Dr. before ’96.
4) Someone who can play “alien” well. Not a fan of bland “but he’s so human and lovable” Dr. elements.
5) Hopefully someone as UGLY AS SIN, just to remind folks the Dr. is not inherently a pretty boy.

I’ve been watching Doctor Who since the second Doctor, and I must say I am a fan of the “pretty boy”, as you put it. And why not? Women in SciFi have always been bomb shells! And if that is what it takes to keep my beloved Doctor Who on television, I will tolerate every mention of Rose and ten and swoon right with them at the next hunky doctor. Good stories, a good actor and a heck a lot of fun are my requirements for Doctor Who!!

1. Not a woman (Nothing personal).
2.Youngish (For action).
3 No well known actors who wiil leave after 1 season for more money (CE nough said).
4 My choice Damian Maloney (Just my opinion).

Bit harsh to say CE left for more money. He says he left because he disagreed with the working conditions (perhaps treatment of low-ranked staff by the bigwigs) and the BBC have not refuted this. In fact originally the BBC made a statement that CE found the work schedule too “gruelling” but very quickly rescinded the statement and apologised. CE is OK in my book and I’d love to see him back in the show at some point – he was a FANTASTIC rebooted doctor.

Yes Defo Damian Molony has a much darker doctor so we get to see that slither of ice in his heart surface. This may sound strange but I would like the 11th doctor to commit suicide because he cant take it anyone from what happens after the 50th to do with john hurts doctor this would lead brilliantly to a tortured damian molony 12th doctor
