This weekend on HBO you are going to be seeing House of the Dragon season 3 episode 3 — are you ready for what comes with that? This is going to be the immediate aftermath of Rhaenyra taking the Iron Throne, and shouldn’t that prove to be thrilling to watch?

Ultimately, the first order of business here is going to be seeing how exactly Alicent reacts to the quickly-changing circumstances, which include now the death of her father at her childhood friend’s hands. There is a good case to be made that she will be furious, especially since she is directly responsible for Rhaenyra getting the Iron Throne in the first place. However, we know that Alicent has spent most of her life in King’s Landing. She likely understands how this world works and beyond that, the value that comes with compartmentalizing certain emotions when it makes sense to do so.

To get a little more insight on this very subject, here is what Olivia Cooke herself had to say on Alicent’s feelings to Cinema Blend:

“I think just white hot anger really … Alicent doesn’t know if Otto has been Rhaenyra’s prisoner this whole time, and this is the first thing that she’s done as the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. This big, showy political act.”

Ultimately, we do not expect a huge battle in episode 3; rather, it could be more about trying to find and establish a new equilibrium. These things do take time, in addition to a lot of people also learning if they can adjust or bend the knee. Yet, this is a show that has had so much conflict that we hardly think that the war is over — why would it be?
