Dutton Ranch season 1 episode 8: The Mariano mystery
We recognize that there are only a couple of episodes left of Dutton Ranch season 1 and through that, the show will need to move fast to give us some answers.
So what is one thing we are especially curious about right now? It really comes down to Joaquin’s father Mariano. He is seemingly still out there, he has ties to the 10-Petal Ranch, and he also seems to have his hands in a number of metaphorical cookie jars. The show seems to be enjoying that they have this unknown element that they can play around with over the remaining episodes — and he could also prove to be an interesting ally to Joaquin depending on the state of their relationship. He may be looking for someone else to be in his corner following the events of this past episode, which show Rob-Will getting the keys to the ranch’s future despite all of his various demons and indiscretions.

For now, let’s just say that Joaquin seems to be at least keeping his options open when it comes to Mariano. Speaking to TV Insider, here is a little more of what Juan Pablo Raba (who plays the character) had to say on the subject:
Joaquin has a lot of cards, and now the question is, will he play them? … [Joaquin and Mariano] don’t have a father-son relationship like the usual thing, but you will see, but he’s very, very, very well aware of him and they’re always in communication.
Ultimately, a show like this is the most effective where almost everyone has those metaphorical cards to play. We know that Beth and Rip are in a similar position thanks to what they know. Our larger question at present is simply this — provided Beulah makes it through, what more could she try to pull?
