House of the Dragon season 3 episode 2 preview: Through the rubble

As we look towards House of the Dragon season 3 episode 2 on HBO next week, it makes the most sense to try and answer the following question — how do you follow up what we have just seen? We had an opportunity to be witness to what was a brutal but also incredibly entertaining Battle of the Gullet and from where things stand at this point, it certainly feels like life will never be the same for any of these people.
So where do we start here? It has to be with Rhaenyra, who we do tend to think is going to be front and center for almost any story after losing Jace. Her son tried to protect her but in doing so, he paid for it with his life. She is going to be heartbroken and angry as a result; unfortunately, Alicent was truly trying to help and she may not be able to see that.

If there is one thing in general we would say about the next chapter of the series, it is that we certainly expect to see this character on as much of a warpath as we have ever had a chance to see her. She could take no prisoners, but also act recklessly through her grief. This is where Daemon may also prove important, and we imagine he is going to have a larger role moving forward.
Now when it comes to the Greens, are they going to consider all of this a win? That is absolutely a curious question at this point. They did manage to end one of Team Black’s dragons, but there was also a number of casualties at sea. Meanwhile, Aegon is still out of King’s Landing and there is as much instability as ever atop the Iron Throne.
