The Last of Us season 3 premiere date: A May 2026 update

Is there a chance we are going to hear more about The Last of Us season 3 between now and the end of May over at HBO?
Of course, this is one of those shows that there is going to be discussion around no matter when it is on the air or not. The second season, after all, included the controversial death of Joel from the games, and we are now moving into another chapter that could look and feel pretty darn different from anything that we’ve had a chance to see so far. There are a number of questions surrounding whether or not season 3 will be the end, and we do imagine that there is going to be some sort of clarity on that before too long.

So what could we actually stand to learn regarding a premiere date this month? Sure, it would be great to get a few more details soon but in the end, we have to keep our expectations reasonably low. The third season (a spotlight mostly on Abby) is still in production, and the series was not a part of a recent sizzle reel displaying some of what could be coming over the course of 2026. Just from that vantage point alone, we would be a little bit surprised if there is some more information that starts to trickle out here.
Our feeling right now is that we would be lucky to see the series return by May of next year, meaning that an actual announcement is likely to be made in the winter. We tend to think that by that point, we will also know one way or another if this is truly the end.
