Grey’s Anatomy Texas spin-off coming to ABC; when?

Just when it seemed as though we all the various Grey’s Anatomy spin-offs that were meant to exist, another one has entered the picture.

According to a report from Deadline, the folks at ABC have given a straight-to-series order to a medical drama co-created by current showrunner Meg Marinis alongside Shonda Rhimes. Ellen Pompeo is also on board as an executive producer, and it will be coming on the air at some point in midseason 2027. (Meanwhile, we expect that the flagship show is going to be on the air in the fall.)

In a statement, here is what Marinis had to say about the new offshoot, which is reportedly “an edgy drama about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere”:

“I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe … This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”

Given that this is a show set in a completely different part of the country, it is our general feeling that crossovers on a regular basis could be a challenge — and that may also be a good thing. After all, Station 19 probably overdid these at times. There may still be some sort of common thread between the two series, but we do appreciate the idea that these could also exist within their own, separate worlds.
