Following the big season 22 finale tonight on ABC, of course it makes sense to be curious about a Grey’s Anatomy season 23. How can you not? The medical drama is still going strong, and we are certainly happy to know in advance that it is also coming back for more.

First and foremost, let’s go ahead and issue a reminder here that Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver are both leaving ahead of the new season, meaning that the absence of Owen and Teddy could in some ways loom large. However, there is still a large cast elsewhere and beyond that, there is a chance that a new face or two will come into the mix. We just have to wait to see what is revealed over the summer.

So when it comes a possible premiere date, we of course simply hope for more info sooner rather than later. While it would be easy to assume that the show will return in September, there are a number of variables to consider. Take, for starters, whether we are going to be getting another 18-episode run or something shorter. Also, what are ABC’s priorities at this point? Grey’s Anatomy may still generate viewership, but it is hardly the dynamo it once was. By virtue of that, we do think it could end up returning in some ways that are hard to expect at present.

Will season 23 be the final one?

For now, nothing has been said on that subject. For us personally, our dream would be for season 25 to be the final one, and for Ellen Pompeo to be around for just about every episode of the grand send-off. That gives the show a little bit more time to build and allows it to conclude in a truly celebratory manner.

What do you most want to see on Grey’s Anatomy season 23 when it does eventually arrive?
