Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 5: How Reverend Bryce is key

As we get prepared for Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 5 on Apple TV next week, we clearly have another new mystery to address. What exactly happened to Reverend Bryce?

Here is what we can label as factual for at least the time being. At the end of episode 4, the trio of Tom, Wyck, and Patricia discovered his dead body. This came after some important reveals in episode 3. We saw him try to warn Tom’s son and his friends about something dangerous; meanwhile, it appears that he heard the mysterious bells he did not earlier on in the season. We also saw him wandering through the woods, and that is certainly never a good sign.

In speaking about all of this (and how it shapes the rest of the season) to Decider, here is what Kate O’Flynn, who plays Patricia, had to say:

He’s kind of the key, Reverend Bryce, to what the hell is going on, and he’s killed himself. So it opens up a whole can of worms of trying to figure out what it was, the information he knew, and where’s that taking us? I just hope viewers keep their seatbelts on and get ready for the roller coaster ride that’s coming because it’s going to go in all different directions.

Ultimately, we are still confused to some extent by the idea of Bryce taking his own life — if that happened, is it because he knew something terrible he could not forget? Or, is it possible that someone else is setting this up so to better throw people off the scent? For the time being, all of this is worth wondering.
