‘Under the Dome’ ratings still huge, renewal beyond likely
Yes, we know it is technically correct for all of the websites out there to announce that the “Under the Dome” ratings were down for Monday night’s new episode, but ultimately you have to use a little bit of context here. Any time that you have a show that airs in summer, it’s a struggle to even get viewers to want to check out out each and every week. In addition to that, it’s also extremely rare for a network show to improve their ratings every week following the premiere; it traditionally dips in the middle, and then rises in the finale, where people choose to watch live to avoid being spoiled throughout the week.
So thanks to all of this, you have to imagine that CBS is thrilled with Monday night’s numbers: The show only fell 7% to a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and over 10 million viewers is amazing for a summer show.
So is a season 2 all but assured? At this point, we feel like it. There’s no pressure for CBS to announce anything now and therefore they won’t, but we think that anything over a 2.0 in the summer is worthy of being brought back for more. The only challenge that the network needs to think about for next year is finding some more quality new shows to put around it.
What do you think about the “Under the Dome” ratings, and are you feeling pretty optimistic that a renewal for season 2 is going to be taking place pretty soon? We want to hear some more of your thoughts below! If you want to check out both our review for this week’s episode and a preview for the action next week, you can do so over at the link here.
