DTF St. Louis episode 6 preview: The layers of the Floyd mystery

Tomorrow night on HBO we are going to finally have a chance to sink into DTF St. Louis episode 6 — and hopefully, get a few more answers along the way.

There are so many different things that make this show so interesting, but perhaps we begin by just discussing the simple fact that this is not playing out like a typical murder-mystery at all. Obviously, the show’s central question is who killed Floyd but at the same time, there is not a concentrated effort being made to build up all of the suspects beyond Clark and Carol. Are there other names out there? Sure, with Eimy being a top suspect to watch moving forward.

Yet, we have spent some time over the past week wondering if this show is actually more about the emotional reverberations of what we are seeing more so than it is just the mystery itself. You can argue that from Clark’s behavior alone, he is probably not the person responsible for this crime. Meanwhile, Carol has been alluded to potentially being this sort of Black Widow figure, which then leads into a number of questions regarding whether or not it is too obvious.

Where we are hoping that this show goes is in a place of breaking apart preconceived notions and then also showing the sort of guilt that the main characters do feel. Take Carol’s paranoia, recognizing that her past may make her seem guilty in the present. Meanwhile, you can argue that Clark is someone who recognizes his own role in causing all of the pain, and that sense of responsibility has led to him clamming up in front of some of the detectives.
