Survivor 50 episode 5 preview: How will Christian move forward?

One thing feels reasonably clear at this point heading into Survivor 50 episode 5 on CBS next week: The purple Vatu tribe may lose again. Two out of the three tribes are heading back to Tribal Council and without as many physical players (sans Ozzy), they may very well be sitting ducks.
Heading into episode 4, it was easy to argue that the David vs. Goliath trio of Angelina, Mike, and Christian were sitting pretty. After all, they had half the numbers and Christian had Emily on his side! Then, things got super messy, as Mike wanted to target Emily and Christian blindsided him, feeling like that was the better path forward. It still remains unclear why everyone did not just band together to take out Stephenie, especially since she did not necessarily have loyalty in any particular direction.

Christian moving forward is in what we would consider to be a really curious spot. After all, is Angelina ever going to trust him after this? Both she and Ozzy both could be bitter about the blindside, which means that he is going to have to cling to Stephenie and Emily moving forward. That could allow him to make it to merge potentially … but Ozzy has an idol. Things could easily fall apart.
Do we understand the long-term benefit of Christian’s move? Sure, as he recognized that he was always going to be Mike’s second choice after Angelina. However, it all feels much too early given that he is now counting on someone who can’t keep information to herself (Emily) and then a total wild-card who plays a completely different game than he does (Stephenie). Sure, he does have Rick Devens elsewhere in the game, but they have to make it back to each other first.
