‘So You Think You Can Dance’ rankings: Fik-Shun, Tucker Knox lead top 9 guys
Now that we feel like we have started to get to know the contestants on “So You Think You Can Dance” a little bit better, we’re now able to really start up what will hopefully be a weekly tradition from here on out: Contestant rankings! Every week, we’ll be back with some analysis on who is bringing it from a competition standpoint every week, and who is struggling to keep themselves afloat.
In case you’re wondering what our criteria is, we’re judging it on a few things: Quality / memorability of performances, airtime, edit, and even likability, once you remember that it is America that really decides your fate at the end of the day. (If they like you, you never have to perform a solo until near the end. We’ll be back tomorrow to talk about the ladies, but today, it’s all about the guys!
9. Jade Zuberi – There’s a lot of hip-hop dancers left, so it’s not exactly an easy place to secure a lot of votes versus other people. After the Bollywood routine, we feel pretty sure that he will be in danger again.
8. Alan Bersten – He’s given a pair of solid performances, but the problem is just that whether it is his performances or his personality, we sit here not remembering him particularly well compared to some of the other contestants.
7. Nico Greetham – He’s obviously got some fan support behind him, since he was not in jeopardy despite having what was probably one of the two weakest dances the first week. He was great on Tuesday, so now it’s going to be a contest of consistency.
6. Aaron Turner – For a lack of pre-live show air time, and being an alternate, Aaron’s doing remarkably well. We still want to see how he handles some of the softer, emotional routines, but so far he’s rocked what he has received.
5. BluPrint – We don’t necessarily think that BluPrint has done better performances thus far than Aaron, but he does have a significant advantage when it comes to airtime.
4. Curtis Holland – Consistently solid through and through, and a great tap dancer. It’s rare to have two guys that are so talented at this within one group of nine, and while that may cause some vote-splitting, we don’t think there will be a lot since they do so many other styles.
3. Paul Karmiryan – There’s no question that the man has the prestige to win this whole competition, and he has to be on paper the one to watch. But how much will people vote for a guy who has already won an international version?
2. Fik-Shun – Easily the strongest hip-hop dancer / animator so far, mostly because we’ve seen him tackle other styles, even ones that he is not even remotely familiar with. This is what we personality believe is a sign of a great dancer: Versatility, and taking on the unfamiliar with ease.
1. Tucker Knox – This is a guy to seriously watch for all season. He and Jenna Johnson have delivered two stellar dances thus far, and while he did not necessarily enter the live rounds with the most recognizable name, he is making people remember him now without a problem.
