A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2: Actor on Maekar’s future

Based on the final tag of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1, it may have been fair to make assumptions about Maekar. After all, him not knowing Egg’s whereabouts is a wonderful tease leading into a possible return in season 2.

Unfortunately, those familiar with the George R.R. Martin books may be aware of the fact that Maekar is not a part of that story — but then again, the ending to season 1 was a bit of a surprise to book purists. Was it created specifically with the intention of shoehorning Egg’s father into the next chapter?

Well, in a word, no. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Sam Spruell makes it abundantly clear that “I’m not going to be in season two.” He also explains what he knows about the next chapter:

Very little. I just know that it follows the book. So, if you know the source material, then you’ll know what to expect. There will always be a slight twist on what you’ve read, and there is also more of an earthy feel to this show. There are no dragons. There is just the land and the people on it. The stripped bareness of season one will certainly maintain in season two. If anything, I think it will be stripped more bare, and you’ll really see the fabric of their being. So season two is going to be really interesting, and they’re shooting it right now.

Of course, here is where we will remind you that showrunner Ira Parker would like for the series to continue even past the three Dunk & Egg novellas that are out there, meaning that there is a chance that season 1 characters could be back at any point far down the road. If nothing else, options are being left open — at least for the time being.
