‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: More talk on that possible spin-off
It’s not often that you hear so much buzz on the topic of a possible spin-off show happening when there has not been much in the way of official confirmation about it, but “Dexter” fans are making themselves extremely clear moving into the show’s final episodes: They are not done with the show yet. Whether it be one featuring Jennifer Carpenter, Yvonne Strahovski, or someone else, spin-off chatter is something that has followed production almost since the early stages of this finale season.
As we’ve said in the past, we cannot imagine a way to make this happen unless you were taking its star from a peripheral character rather than a lead, mostly because you can’t have someone tied too closely to Dexter without the show feeling like the same exact thing. Executive producer Sara Colleton may or may not agree with that theory, but she did tell TVLine that the idea of creating a special show around another character really is not one of those things on the forefront of her mind right now:
“We are so focused on finishing the series up before we overstay our welcome that spin-offs are the very last thing on anybody’s mind … We just want to use every bit of emotional and physical energy [on the final season].”
It is still difficult to imagine what the spin-off storyline would be about. Would Deb turn into some national hunter of serial killers? Would we watch a creepy dating show starring Masuka? We hope that everyone involved here takes a few deep breaths after all this is said and done, and realizes that they do not want to make anything that comes close to tainting the legacy of the original show, or ruining what made it so special in the first place.
