As we look more towards IT: Welcome to Derry season 1 episode 5 this weekend, have we reached a key turning point? It does at least feel like you can start to argue that.

After all, there are a few different things that are well-worth considering here, beginning with what Dick Hallorann saw via his time with Taniel. He has information that he can pass along to Shaw, regardless of whether or not he wants to. He is a character who at this point, is stuck doing an extremely difficult job thanks to the abilities he has. Yet, doing said job is his way out.

Speaking in a new interview right now with Entertainment Weekly, Chris Chalk notes the extreme cost that comes with doing some of the various things he has — especially with Taniel:

“It costs energy … We were talking about: How much does he sweat? How much does he shake? How much does he go unconscious? We pitched both boys being unconscious when they come back, but then when Dick recovers, he’s like, ‘Save this boy.’ I guess I’m describing there’s so much information about Dick, how he cares for this kid, how he didn’t want to do it, but how he’s willing to do it anyway just to get out of this crazy town and to get out from underneath General Shaw. It costs everything…Well, he thinks it costs everything, but then the show keeps going.”

We do believe that he still has quite a role to play after unearthing more of the truth about Pennywise, and the question we are left with is honestly not that hard — can anyone convince Shaw that all of this is a bad idea? This is someone who seems firmly determined with his idea, even regardless of whatever evidence that it is wrong or bad.
