Shrinking season 4: Show EP on early plans, Easter eggs

We have said many times over at this point that Shrinking was originally pitched as a three-season project over at Apple TV+. However, that is not necessarily the end of the show, just as it is with another Bill Lawrence production in Ted Lasso.

So what more can we say about the long-term future right now? Let’s just say that, at least for now, we have a little bit of a plan.

Speaking in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, here is some of what Lawrence had to say about how season 3 will build into another season:

The way we approach Shrinking is that we know Jason’s character’s journey, which is grief, forgiveness and moving forward. That’s a three-season tale. But if you’re asking me, “What are the next three seasons going to be?” Well, they’re therapists, and just because you’ve gotten over the biggest stick in the spokes of your life doesn’t mean there’s no more pathos. We intentionally put these people in a world that brings all of that to their doorstep, so there’s always more story to tell. We definitely put some Easter eggs into the third season that will allow people to see what’s coming.

Just hearing this alone is pretty darn exciting, and we do tend to think that this show could go on as long as the cast wants it to last. This is the thing about a comedy line this — you really don’t have to rush anything since there is a lot that comes from just sitting around and enjoying your time with these characters. Also, more laughs — what would a show like this actually be without them?
