‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: Colton Haynes teases time jump
Given the pretty horrific events that occurred during the season 1 finale of “Arrow,” there were a couple of different approaches that The CW and the writers could take when mapping out the story for the fall. They could either try to deal with the direct aftermath and rebuild from there, or make a tiny time jump so that many of these characters are somewhat secure again. The benefit of doing this is that you have an opportunity once again to have a new starting point, and it gives characters time to heal and figure out where they stand.
Based on what we hearing now from series star Colton Haynes, this does appear to be the direction in which the show is heading. Speaking out in a new interview with IGN, the man behind Roy Harper had the following to say in teasing the start of the season 2 plot:
“There’s a big time lapse. We’re going to pick up a little later, not right off the bat. So we’re going to have to deal with The Glades and what’s happening to them. I think there’s going to be a point where Roy’s going to have to figure out what’s going to be next. Is he hopefully becoming Oliver’s sidekick? What is that going to mean for Thea, because obviously she has no idea that her older brother is the vigilante? There’s a lot of ways it can go, and also there’s a lot to be said about what Willa’s character Thea can become.”
With this closing line in mind, it does further drive the questioning as to whether or not there could be another change from the comics. While we still believe firmly that Roy is destined to be Speedy (given that is the way that it was in the story), we wouldn’t put it past the writers to keep us on our toes and change something up so that Thea could be a hero for a time. Remember, it was hard to expect the death of Tommy given that he lives on in most iterations of the comic.
Do you think a time jump is a good idea, and do you think it is a good idea to think outside the box with a character as significant as Speedy? If you want to check out some more assorted “Arrow” season 2 teasers, you can do so over at the link here.
