‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Jenna-Louise Coleman snags another role on the BBC

While Jenna-Louise Coleman is seemingly staying on board “Doctor Who” for season 8 (unlike her co-star Matt Smith), she is still looking elsewhere when it comes to taking other acting jobs.

Take, for example, the new announcement that she is joining “The Americans” star Matthew Rhys in the three-part BBC serial “Death Comes to Pemberley,” which is based on the P.D. James’ novel using characters from famed Jane Austen literature. The story is set years after Elizabeth and Darcy’s wedding, where a murder takes place while at a gathering. In particular, Coleman is set to play the part of Lydia Wickham.

Production on this series begins this month in Yorkshire, which means that Coleman will be able to produce the work necessary for this series before starting up the “Doctor Who” Christmas special, which is the final episode of the series that she will do as a Companion of Smith. (The 50th anniversary special has already been filmed.) The search is underway for the 12th Doctor, and while the British press are seemingly as eager as ever to scream various casting suggestions from the rooftops, there really is not that much in the way of evidence at all suggesting that there really is a favorite.

Expect to hear more on the “Doctor Who” casting search when it’s actually completed, mostly because the person they end up selecting will not be so stupid as to bandy about the news to all of their friends in fear of losing the job.
