‘Open’: ‘Glee’s’ Ryan Murphy draws from ‘The Hunger Games’ in casting HBO pilot

Remember the news that Ryan Murphy is in the process of working on an HBO pilot all about exploring human sexuality? This show is entitled “Open,” and we have just learned the identity of who is set to be one of the show’s primary stars.

Sources have confirmed that Wes Bentley, whose film credits include “Lovelace” as well as “American Beauty” and “The Hunger Games,” has been cast to play the role of Evan Poster, a cocky guy now afraid of sharing his thoughts on the subject of sexuality … and also how you should feel the same way as him. Bentley has never starred in a TV project that made it to series, so this could be a pretty interesting gig for him should he land it.

“Open” marks the first pilot for Murphy following the cancellation of “The New Normal,” but the good news for him is that he does still have two other shows still airing on TV in “American Horror Story” and his long-term hit in “Glee.” So long as these remain on the air for at least a little while longer, the man does not have anything to worry about when it comes to not having a job. We’re also optimistic about “Open’s” chances on the air, given the show was subject to a bidding war before being picked up, and HBO does not want to squander having another big-name producer on their roster. (Murphy is producing this show with “Dexter’s” Lauren Gussis, who would oversee a good percentage of the day-to-day operations.)
