‘The Daily Show’ loses viewers on John Oliver’s second night hosting
This test run for John Oliver as host of “The Daily Show” is in some ways a tad unfair. He is going to be consistently compared with Jon Stewart no matter what he does, and this is a rather difficult thing to handle since there is really only one John Stewart. Not only that, but this is the summer and television ratings usually tank, especially in June.
For Oliver’s second show, with some of the hype gone, it is no surprise to see him drop down from around 1.5 million viewers to close to 1.1, which is also a drop of over 200,000 viewers from the Tuesday show hosted by Stewart last week. However, it should be noted that Oliver’s show matched the 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic that Stewart had last week, which levels the playing field as far as advertisers go.
When the dust settles, we do not really expect there to be that much of a substantial change at all between one version of “The Daily Show” and the other when it comes to ratings. Oliver’s numbers may be slightly lower, but it should not be enough to make anyone really question whether or not he is bombing on the show. It’s just summer, as he is a very funny man that has proven himself over the years to be capable of taking on the boldest political story. The irony then comes in that one of his weaknesses right now is handling some of the lighter pieces like interviewing celebrities.

I read an article where the viewership increased or maintained on the second night. Who is lying here.
