‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3 spoilers: Should Hook / Emma fans rejoice?
Before we get too in-depth on anything else related to “Once Upon a Time,” shouldn’t we at least start by saying that Emma and Hook may have the best shipper name ever in Captain Swan? It’s one of the few out there that actually still sounds like it could be a real person, so congratulations to the fans on that.
But do you really think that these fans are going to be particularly pleased with just thinking up a cute name? Don’t count on it. The seed was planted last season for romance here to be a possibility, and while there are no guarantees, these two characters (played by Colin O’Donoghue and Jennifer Morrison) are not going to wake up tomorrow and suddenly not have any sort of attraction towards each other. This is something that executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz addressed recently at the ATX Television Festival, when describing what Hook’s mindset is probably going to be now that he is aboard his pirate ship with potentially a whole new lease on life:
“The thing I liked about Captain Hook in the finale is, he started to look back on his life and was like, ‘Maybe I’ve wasted it?’ So here you’ve got a guy that wants a new chance. And I think being surrounded by all these characters last year, and even seeing his nemesis happy with someone else made him realize that, ‘Maybe after all these 100 years, I need to get over Milah.’ So who knows? They’re on the ship together and Emma thinks Neal’s dead …”
Perhaps what also benefits these characters right now is the notion that this is a show about redemption and change; the characters both have checkered pasts, and they could be the other half of each other that helps them move on from their past. Will it work? We don’t know, and we still think that Hook is at a little bit of a different place in what is a very long life.
What’s your take on Hook and Emma: Do you root for them, or is this a possible romance you want to disappear into thin air? Be sure to share your thoughts below! Hook and Emma is THE most interesting couple on the show. Of course, I am rejoicing. I love that their story is written wonderfully in a realistic manner. It’s not forced at all unlike some other couples on tv (even on the show). It’s going to be epic and I cannot wait!

I hate the idea of Emma and hook together! Maybe it’s the fact that I love Colin Donahue and I don’t think Emma’s good enough for him. I think Emma should be with Neil and hook should be with either Ariel or tinker bell which hopefully we will meet in Nederland!! Doo excited!!

For me, I think at this point, Captain Swan feels more real than many other canon couples. Not even just in a romantic way, but their relationship in general. They fight, they flirt, they understand each other. There’s a strong connection, but they’re both still weary, and also have other things in their lives they need to focus on first (Emma = Henry, Hook = learning to let go). All the other couples it’s been about that true love. Captain Swan is the kind of relationship I think belongs in the real world, not just the Enchanted Forest **end rant**

i got you. that’s why i’m excited for all the flirting because we know there is attraction there but i also want their story to stay realistic, and by that i mean, long, strong build up because there are lots of get over with first. I see it going that way that’s why I’m really interested and excited in Hook and Emma in particular

Honestly? I don’t see it and I think there’s a lot of wishful thinking and subjective interpretation involved from their fans, but then I guess all fans do that so it’s not different from any of the other ships of OUAT.
I don’t like Emma with Neal either though. I would prefer for her to remain single until she has a more stable sense of herself and her role in the Charming family and Storybrooke.

To me these two just fit, instantly you have and see a connection between them, and the understanding – all that has to mean something, when you find someone in your life that shares that connection and understanding its rare, so it has to mean something. I think they make sense for each other, they both deep down very loving ppl to how they love someone, fiercely and deeply, this is what they need in each other, and an fighter. Who puts Emma first, chooses her!!! FIGHTS for her.

I love this article! Yes, Emma and Hook cannot just forget that attraction. Plus, Emma needs to move on from Neal. And yes, the seed was planted for a romance. I mean, look at their scenes, they have the best scenes ever. And yes, Captain Swan is the coolest ship name. Also cannot wait for all the characters on the Jolly Roger! It’s going to be crazy! I rather expect some Jack Sparrow/Captain Barbossa between Hook and Rumple.

This is definitely one of the things I am most excited about season 3. I love them as individual characters and I loooooove the possibility of them together. I love how the other is such an open book to the other and how no matter what side they are on. there is that mutual respect. And I AGREE, they have that undeniable attraction there. It also obviously doesn’t hurt that they have the best chemistry in the history of ever.

I think the one who truly understand Hook is Emma (remember the finale Emma said that). They’re both abandoned as a child and prefer to be alone. And Hook can read her like an open book. But the problem is, they haven’t trusted each other enough, but I guess after the finale Emma finally learn to trust someone new again. And Emma also invited him inside of the group, to her family, something that Hook never had. So it’s obvious that Emma is what Hook needs and vice versa.
