‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Has Rory Kinnear been offered 12th Doctor role?
As it turns out, at least part of that “Doctor Who” rumor regarding a replacement for Matt Smith turned out to be true. While we have not heard anything else on the three names mentioned in previous reports, a major British publication has come out and listed a favorite for the role.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the man in question is 35-year old “Skyfall” actor Rory Kinnear, an accomplished performer who was first linked to the role earlier this spring before Smith was ever announced that he was stepping down. (At the time, Kinnear admitted that he had never seen the show, and he attributed the gossip mostly to misdirection.)
In speaking to the publication, a source close to the show had the following to say:
“He has been offered the part and we are waiting to hear if he will accept … He is the perfect choice.”
Basically, the reaction to this news is sure to be on par with what the reaction is to any other major casting. There are sure to be a large number of people who will be thrilled to hear that Kinnear could be the man, but at the same time those looking for a minority or a female in the role will probably be disappointed. In time, all criticism will likely fade depending on how The Doctor performs on screen; our personal preference is that casting should always just choose the best candidate for the story line they want to tell, regardless of who they are, what they look like, or whatever demographic that they fall into.
Do you think that Kinnear could be a fine choice for the role? If you want to also read what Jenna-Louise Coleman had to say recently in regards to Smith’s departure from the series, all you have to do is head on over to the link here.
