‘Burn Notice’ season 7 premiere review: Michael Westen is back … and he’s changed

Burn NoticeIn the world of “Burn Notice,” things can change very quickly. How much so? During much of the season 7 premiere on Thursday night, it almost felt as though many of these characters were living within an entirely different world. Fiona had herself a new boyfriend and was still doing jobs, Jesse and Sam had moved completely forward with their lives, and Madelyn had actually decided to adopt Nate’s son after his mother ended up proving herself to be an unfit parent.

As for Michael Westen, his recent travels with the CIA led him all the way down to the Dominican Republic, where he was sent with yet another mission to try and infiltrate the world of an old friend (played by Adrian Pasdar) … one that included him posing as an alcoholic.

However, some questions that were coming in from a mysterious man started to set off a trigger with Sam that there was something wrong with their former friend, and they set out in order to try and figure out what was wrong. The only unfortunate thing? This said man hit the group right where it hurt, with him posing as a child custody agent for Maddie. She dished what she knew about his deal, and thus created a world of hurt for her son.

The most interesting thing about this episode as a whole was that the long-awaited reunion between all of the characters has yet to even happen, but the show has still figured out a way to keep things interesting, and has us excited about the future. While we’re sure that there are some out there who would have preferred to see a reunion this week, we’re glad that the writers are taking their time with this, as opposed to just doing the convenient thing. Michael is heading back to Miami, but the goal is not for anyone to know he is there.
