‘The Voice’ UK preview: What comes next for Jessie J, Danny O’Donoghue’s teams

Ever since “The Voice” UK first kicked off earlier this year, we were interested in seeing just what the series could do in order to improve itself over the ho-hum finish to last year’s program. However, we’re not entirely sure that when it comes to the schedule, the show is doing the right thing.

While we do have the quantitative data in order to back this up, the element of the show over the past few years that seems to have become the most widely-panned is that of the battle rounds. They are drawn up, and seeing a contestant vocally duel with another one really does not do anything to show artistry at all. Instead, it’s just two people trying their best to will the other person with their voice to give up.

So what has the show done as a result of that? How about extend the battles to two weeks? That’s right: This weekend’s edition of the show will once again be all about the battles. Next week, we have what we would prefer to see with the third stage of the show: The knockout rounds, where the contestants are all forced to sing one by one until the coach makes their decisions. It at least allows for an opportunity to be more artistic and show what you can really do, rather than just having to fit into a mold set already by a duet partner.

The live shows for the season will officially kick off in early June, and there are only three this year which is in our opinion another mistake, given that this is a chance for artists to truly get the support of viewers at home.
