‘The Good Wife’ season 5 spoilers: Are we near the end of the road?

The Good WifeAt the CBS upfront presentation this week, it was announced that “The Good Wife” will keep its current timeslot on Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, even though the ratings were on the low end up the spectrum for the network as a whole. To be fair, this is a hard time-slot for almost any show to take. Football causes it to be tossed around like a rag doll, and people who have to go to bed early end up having to put some pretty wonky settings on their DVRs just to ensure that they get it all.

Given the low ratings, we have to ask the menacing question that we’re sure a good many people out there would prefer to shy away from: Are we getting close to the end of the show? It’s a scary proposition, but let’s face it, if this show was not the Emmy darling it is, it may have already been cut.

For the time being, at least take a deep breath in knowing that the show’s co-creator is at least not looking at season 5 as the end. As a matter of fact, Robert King explained the following in an interview with TVLine:

“Although if CBS tells us it’s the last chapter of the show, we could probably go there. We always knew from the beginning how we would end it, and it’s not in sight YET. We’re not running out of story. As long people are interested, there are these fun places to go to get us where we eventually want to go.”

There is no official premiere date yet for “The Good Wife” season 5, but we’d circle your calendars for Sunday, September 29. Unless anything crazy happens (which includes CBS executives going insane once they realize that this show would be up against “Homeland”), this will probably be when Alicia Florrick begins the next chapter.
