‘The Carrie Diaries’ season 2 spoilers: Get ready to meet Samantha … again
The CW better get ready to up the content rating for one of their returning shows…
Your enjoyment of “The Carrie Diaries” is almost completely dependent on the way in which you view the show, and we say this here more than we have about almost any other on the map. If you consider it to be a true prequel to “Sex and the City,” you’re probably angry about the changes to that particular canon. If you look at it as an alternate-universe standalone series, it’s actually pretty entertaining, even if there is a history still documented with some of these characters.
One of these such people is Samantha Jones, the sex-crazed PR maven that Carrie Bradshaw is close friends with in the days of the HBO series. Kim Cattrall famously played the role throughout the show and the two movies, and now, The CW is going to try her on for size. It was confirmed at the network’s upfront presentation Thursday that Samantha will be cast, but no actress has landed the part yet. This works in line with what happened in the Candace Bushnell books, where she was the first one of Carrie’s group of friends she meets in the city.
While there is still no word on what happens with either Charlotte or Miranda, the name of Stanford was at least mentioned during the season 1 finale. Perhaps he will turn up at some point, too?
“The Carrie Diaries” was to many a surprise pickup for a second season given the ratings, but it did perform well in DVR numbers and web streaming. It was announced Thursday that the show will air new episodes at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Fridays this fall, and while this may sound strange at first, the show actually performed well in repeats there as counter-programming to much of the older-skewing shows on the air.
