MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 3, episode 6 review: From not to hot … to not again?
Who doesn’t love Halloween? While it felt strange in some ways to have an “Awkward” episode themed around the holiday air in the middle of May, this just so happens to be the way that TV works sometimes. Plus, the show started things off this season in the fall of the school year, and if it flash-forward all the way to the spring, school would be almost over.
We want to think that this really was an important half-hour for the show, and not just because it provided an opportunity to see Jake and Tamara try to pass themselves off as Sugar & Spice. It really just showed how different social circles could change perceptions. For example, Matty was voted the “hottest” person at the high school, whereas Jenna sadly found herself on the opposite end of the spectrum.
The reality here, though, was that after attending a costume party hosted by her classmate / hipster guy Colin, she was suddenly the belle of the ball, and Matty was a meat-head good-looking guy with very little to offer. Disappointing news, no? Well, this started to open up a crack that could become a fissure later on, especially if Jenna starts to really feel as though she is better off with someone who has more to talk about besides abs and having a great smile.
While “Awkward” does suffer from a major case sometimes of being repetitive and giving us a relationship problem almost every week, there’s still no denying that it’s a dark funny show. Plus, it still feels like there is a major story ahead, and Colin could be trouble for our leading man and lady.
What was your take on this “Awkward” episode, do you think that we are starting to see really see the beginning of the end for Jenna and Matty? If you want to see some more scoop on what is coming up on the show, all you have to do is check out the story over at the link here.
