‘Mad Men’ season 6, episode 8 preview: Don Draper and ‘The Crash’ of the titans
After Sunday night’s bizarre episode of “Mad Men,” there is primarily one thought that comes into our brain: Don Draper and Pete Campbell are basically even worse people than we originally thought. If we were Sylvia, we would have made Don eat his shoes after the humiliating ritual he put her through. Somehow, he has managed to go from sabotaging his marriages to even sabotaging his affairs, while Pete continues to make his case as the #1 person to leave behind in any and all situations (even if his mother is not keeping him from being late).
So what does the promo for next week’s “The Crash” really promise? As always, not much, but the title certainly is ominous, no? It could be about some sort of physical accident that causes someone great pain, or it is also feasible that what we’re really looking at here is some sort of metaphorical fall from grace. Now that the affair is over, the passion that was holding the secret together could always unravel. Even if it doesn’t, it is hard to feel anything other than some sort of gut reaction to the thought that this whole Don / Megan marriage simply cannot last.
Every time that Megan has had an intimate conversation with her husband, his reaction has been the equivalent of a caveman grunting back at her. He’s great at finding ways to help businesses sell products, but is terrible at finding ways to sell his marriage. In addition to showing an angry Don, the promo features Pete freaking out, and Roger Sterling finally surfacing again to hand out some advice to “stop thinking about” a certain something.
Do you think the end is nigh for the Drapers, especially with Don’s diminishing returns and with the Sylvia scandal burning a deep hole? You can check out our full review of the last episode here, and we welcome as always your thoughts!
