CBS to pick up ‘Mom’ from ‘Big Bang Theory,’ ‘Two and a Half Men’ guru

Good news for those of you who love Chuck Lorre: The man already has three shows on prime-time TV in “The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and a Half Men,” and “Mike & Molly,” and he is about to make it four.

Sources have confirmed to Deadline that “Mom,” Lorre’s new sitcom starring Anna Faris as a recovering alcoholic who is trying to stay sober and live in the Napa Valley, will be picked up by CBS for at least 13 episodes on Wednesday. This is coming a full week before the network has their upfront presentation, where we are feeling as though Lorre will be carted in as though he is a pharaoh in ancient Egypt.

When it comes to “Mom,” it feels in many ways as though this is a show destined to be fully ordered from the moment it was conceived. CBS has no reason at all to doubt Lorre’s abilities as a showrunner given his success over the years, and Faris is a well-known comedic talent who has shown an ability to carry feature films (even if not all of them have been commercially successful).

As for the state of the rest of the CBS comedy pilots, it does look as though the network may actually be ordering an extra hour of TV in the this specific genre. Robin Williams’ “The Crazy Ones” seems to be a pretty likely candidate to be picked up, and there are some other major contenders including two shows from Greg Garcia, a comedy with Matthew Broderick, and one featuring Kal Penn.
