ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5, episode 22 review: What we learned in ‘Still’
While it may be tempting to refer to Monday night’s new episode of “Castle” as a clip show, this is really doing the story a little bit of a disservice. After all, what we are really looking at here is so much more than that. It was an episode that brought us deep into the past of Castle and Beckett, showed how much Rick cares for her, and also provided a reveal that does somewhat change the dynamic at the precinct.
So what was it? The mere fact that Capt. Gates has known about Castle and Beckett being together for quite a long time now, but has just kept silent about it. However, she encouraged Castle and Beckett to kiss after they managed to work together to save Beckett’s life and also defuse a bomb that was on a pressure plate at her feet.
We can’t lie and say that it was obvious that the episode was filmed under a very tight production schedule, as it was a bonus one stuck at the end of production to fill up another week. We still did find reasons to laugh, reasons to cry, and reasons to be optimistic for the future. The only real issue with the episode comes in the fact that it occurred (at least per the airing schedule) a week after “The Squab and the Quail,” which hinted at trouble in paradise. This episode was originally supposed to air before, it but was delayed following the Boston bombing. Now, you have to be ready to start seeing more trouble for the relationship again next week with “The Human Factor.”
Overall, what was your take on “Still,” and did it deliver everything that you were hoping for? If you want to also check out some early scoop on the “Castle” finale, all you have to do is visit the story over here.

I love the show but feel a little manipulated. “still” was supposedly a drop in, yet there were some very key things that take place in it (no spoilers here). I guess I’m wondering how a supposedly extra episode revealed some mighty important facts.

I was pleased with the episode. The preview of her being offered a new job in DC was a concern, I guess they are going to have to make some decisions. I hope Castle is portrayed as the person who wants to be with her forever, not bitter about her considering moving to DC,

Every week I claim the latest Castle episode to be the best ever, but maybe this one really was. Of course, the heart of the show was when Kate sent him away, but called out to him, using ‘Rick’ rather than her usual ‘Castle’ to stop him, long enough to tell him that she loved him. Stana Katic has had some powerful scenes during the run of this show, but that one was so far over the top! She never ceases to amaze me! Nathan, of course, was typically right on also.
Despite my trust in Andrew Marlowe, I have the feeling he is going to leave us with another broken heart over the summer! Last year was the only show finale that left us hanging with hope of their relationship becoming more. The rest left us in saddness for Caskett. Maybe the fact that this year’s viewings have been the best so far will have led him to better understand how we fans need them to be together.
