Watch ‘One Life to Live’ and ‘All My Children’s’ big return (video)
Monday marks what really is a watershed day when it comes to the way in which daytime dramas are syndicated to viewers. After over a year of waiting and speculation as to whether or not they would even find a way to return, “One Life to Live” and “All My Children” are each back on the air … albeit via the internet.
We have premieres of both of the two shows below, and we’ll leave the overall assessment of them up to you. We do think that it is remarkable that the two shows managed to find a new way to survive, and now the question is just whether or not they will be able to last. As of today, they are dominating the most-popular charts on Hulu, but this is hardly much of a surprise at all given that this is the time you would expect them to be popular. Premiere days are meant to be huge, and the real question comes in the weeks and months ahead. It also bodes well that the shows are faring well on the iTunes store, though they are still facing heavy competition from the likes of “Mad Men” and “Game of Thrones.”
Both of these two shows were at one point staples of the ABC lineup, but they eventually fell victim to DVRs along with changing times. Thanks to so many other options on TV available around the clock, there became a need for fewer soaps on TV. One of the selling points here is that these episodes are a bit shorter than their broadcast counterparts, and the fact that they can be bundled together and carried anywhere means that they could be great for plane rides or late-night viewing sessions.
