‘The Voice’ UK preview: Alice Barlow, ex-‘Hollyoaks’ actress, sings ‘Call My Maybe’
It may be hard to believe, but somehow, the blind auditions are still happening on “The Voice” UK. It may be due to the fact that we’ve become so conditioned to the blind auditions in the American version getting three hours a week of air time, but it does feel almost as though this round has been going since the beginning of time.
The sneak peek that we have for Saturday’s episode is at least interesting, since we have a contestant that some British viewers should be relatively familiar with. Alice Barlow appeared in nearly 100 episodes of the soap “Hollyoaks” over a few years, and she is now trying to make a transition from being known as an actress to a singer. With that in mind, we’re surprised that she picked a song in Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” that does not really yield to much when it comes to vocal theatrics. There is only so much that you can do with a song like that, and we know that these coaches are going to be picky at this stage of the game.
While we don’t have an opportunity to see whether or not Alice gets any chairs to turn around, she at least makes it through the chorus without getting any love from will.i.am, Tom Jones, Jessie J, or Danny O’Donoghue. If she does get a chair, it’s probably going to be at the last second, and she’ll have to prove herself in the battle rounds.
What do you think about this performance, and do you believe that Barlow has a real shot at moving on? If you want to check out some more highlights from “The Voice” UK, be sure to visit the story over at the link here.
