‘America’s Got Talent’ introducing subtle changes for 2013 season

Do you think that “America’s Got Talent” has fallen into a little too much of a routine these days? While adding Howard Stern as a judge created plenty of buzz, it actually did not do anything to change the basic format of the show.  There are still auditions, live shows, and three judges who offer up their opinion.

However, this season has one change that is going to be apparent pretty much from the get-go. There are four judges now present rather than three, thanks in part to the additions of Heidi Klum and Mel B to the mix. At NBC’s press day on Monday, show executive producer Jason Raff teased some of the changes to the show. For one, just having four judges means that only the best of the best are going to advance since it will now take the approval of three out of four judges to advance, versus two out of three on the version of the show that aired last year.

While Raff promised that there was going to be no drastic shakeup on the show when it comes to format, he did say that we would see a different sort of conflict between the judges, and tell more stories behind the scenes than what we have seen on the show thus far. This may be a similar sort of shift to what has happened on “Britain’s Got Talent” this year, which has brought on a style that feels close to what “The X Factor” USA did with telling stories backstage (except with a host present).
