2013 GLAAD Media Awards: ‘American Horror Story,’ ‘Days of Our Lives’ win honors

American Horror StoryThe Los Angeles portion of the 2013 GLAAD Media Awards took place on Saturday night, and this ended up being a rather fantastic night for Ryan Murphy. The prolific showrunner had a pair of shows take home some top honors from an organization that has also honored “Glee,” and he was present to accept a pair of trophies he received in both the miniseries and the comedy category. (Yes, we are still well aware of the debate about whether or not “American Horror Story” is really a miniseries  but that diminishes the point.)

Be sure to check out the full list of TV-related winners below when it comes to their inclusion of LGBT themes and progressive storylines.

Outstanding Comedy Series – “The New Normal” (NBC), which has a future that is still in doubt.

Outstanding Individual Episode – “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Me What to Do” from “Raising Hope” (Fox).

Outstanding Daily Drama – “Days of Our Lives” (NBC)

Outstanding TV Movie / Miniseries – “American Horror Story: Asylum” (FX)

Outstanding Talk Show Episode – Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, “Oprah’s Next Chapter” (OWN)

The GLAAD Media Awards recognize more than just various forms of entertainment, and thus they take a little while longer to be held. This is the second of three ceremonies this year, as there was one held in Los Angeles just a matter of weeks ago. Meanwhile, the final edition of the Media Awards will be held in San Francisco on May 11.

Do you feel as though these were some of the right recipients? If you want to also read a little bit more news on some Emmy changes that could impact Murphy’s “American Horror Story,” you can do so over at the link here.
